2015 Q1 Challenge

As mentioned in the Projects At Work podcast with Dave Prior, we talked about my challenge with Matt Payton to dedicate each month of 2015 to a specific goal. Below, I will briefly explain the challenge each month in Q1 and why we chose it.

January - Meditation

  • Why:
    • As Project Managers, there is a need to remain cool, calm, and collected in the most stressful of scenarios. In life, there is always the need to be patient, kind, and always making time to dedicate oneself to focusing on decreasing stress. My hypothesis is that meditation will help with this.
  • Task:
    • To meditate for 20 minutes a day for all 31 days of January. Per the suggestion of Dave Prior, we will be using https://insighttimer.com
  • Goal:
    • To measure increased happiness, increased satisfaction from those around us (work & home).

February - Caffeine Free

  • Why:
    • Coffee is a drug. It is pretty simple. While this sweet nectar of the gods is widely abused and socially acceptable, what are the measurable differences and benefits of not being dependent upon this substance?
  • Task:
    • No caffeine for the 28 days of February
  • Goal:
    • Find if the ups and downs of caffeine are tied to any sets of behaviors we dislike? Improved sleep? More energy without crashes?

March - Gym Month

  • Why:
    • Awhile ago Payton and I started joking and created the hashtag #thisis30  - at this age our physical fitness seems to not come as easily... #thisis30. But even more so, making a priority of going to the gym we hypothesize will help in all the ways we have heard.
  • Task:
    • A full workout in the gym at least 3 times a week for the Month of March. The equates to 13 visits.
  • Goal:
    • Increased energy, endorphins, and general health improvements.

Come back soon to see the goals for Q2 and beyond. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, or would like to follow along with us, please make sure to leave a comment and let us know what you hope to gain, experiences in doing the exercises, or let us know where/when the challenge failed.
