Love What You Do and Who You Do It For

Hi. My name is Dan and I am a pessimist and a Senior Software Engineer, hoping to be promoted to a Junior Software Engineer one day.

I feel like I could be considered a job jumper. Why do I switch? Why can’t I find someplace where I can be happy? Why do I find the negative in companies? Does happiness exist? I can honestly say it does.

I had a professor in college who I will never forget. He said, “Don’t be a work whore!” The whole class was taken aback and laughed because the professor said “whore.” My professor then said, “It’s not funny! What is a work whore? Someone who does something for money they don’t love. Think about it! Do you want to go to a job every day that you don’t enjoy? No, you want to wake up every day and love what you do and who you do it for!”

I can honestly say that I’ve finally found that company and here are some of the reasons:

  • The leadership team is aligned.

  • The CEO knows me by first name and actually knows me as a person, and so does the rest of the leadership team. I can tell them anything and they genuinely care.

  • The leadership team cares about my career growth.

  • They don’t believe in Shit Sandwiches.

  • They hire people who care, want to be there, and do great things.

  • People respect one another.

  • No politics.

  • EMPLOYEES COME FIRST! That’s right, my name isn’t resource 10003423; It’s Dan and I am not a resource or a warm body!

Everyone deserves to wake up every day wanting to go to work, see the people they work with, be creative and do great things. Don’t give up hope.

P.S. I think something is in the kombucha that is making me say all these things.
