Inside the Hackathon: How Team Estimate Eliminators Built a Capacity Forecasting System

Meet the Estimate Eliminators; a hackathon team that turned Jira backlogs into real capacity visibility with a steampunk-themed forecasting engine.

I just wrapped up an incredible hackathon experience with my team, the Estimate Eliminators. Our squad: Me, Kate Wilkerson, Maria Balbino, Marília Bedoya, Natalie Meirelles, Simon Scudder, and Vinicius Fruet, set out to transform project backlogs into real capacity visibility.

While I spent time observing the technical side of the build, I was able to contribute more significantly this year by participating in our presentation strategy and slide development. We had a great deal of fun with the process, even adopting a "steampunk" theme to represent the "engine room" of project delivery. Our Capacity Forecasting System bridges the gap between work needed in Jira and capacity planned in Parallax.

The result is an automated system that generates a Forecast Confidence Score and executive reports to flag risks before they become blockers. We walked away with a tool that ensures full transparency and proactive management. It was an incredible team effort, and there is nothing quite like the energy of collaborating to turn problems into solutions.
