AgentCore Quick Tips

Written by Nathan Wilkerson, VP of Engineering | Oct 23, 2025 10:37:38 PM

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is still in preview at the time of writing this. There are a few labs and sample repos about how to use it and are a great place to get started. Below are a few things I learned the hard way when getting started.

Health Check

This is an endpoint that AgentCore will hit to keep your container healthy for long running processes. I couldn’t find a mention of this health check but found a reference to it in the troubleshooting guide.

@app.ping
def health_check():
   """Health check endpoint required by AgentCore"""
    return "Healthy"

Prebuilt Tools

Strands Has a lot of prebuilt tools for AgentCore. I have not used them all but the Slack and use_aws tools work great. If you’re trying to interact with a common service or tool look for a prebuilt tool first. Here is the link to the strands tool repo

Design Patters

Working with agents is a paradigm shift in how software systems are designed. With the new paradigm there are new design patterns to consider. AWS was nice enough to publish some of these for everyone. Here is the current link.

I  hope that this blogs saves someone time as they learn AWS BedRock AgentCore
