THE CHALLENGE

Before partnering with Metal Toad, ComplyAssistant faced significant challenges integrating AI into its Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) workflows. Their reliance on manual document processing limited the potential of intelligent automation, resulting in time-consuming tasks, increased risk of human error, and reduced overall efficiency.  THE SOLUTION

Metal Toad proposed a strategic solution: developing a proof of concept for an intelligent document processing (IDP) solution on AWS. The chosen architecture leveraged AWS services such as Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Bedrock. This technology stack was selected for its ability to automate repetitive tasks, reduce errors, and scale efficiently.

The engagement was structured around five primary objectives:

  • Feasibility Demonstration: Using AI agents to automate the evaluation of compliance documents.
  • Baseline Performance: Establishing initial metrics for pass/fail control determination.
  • Reliability Validation: Testing the accuracy of AI agents specifically for ComplyAssistant Audits.
  • Architectural Best Practices: Identifying the integration patterns required for a scalable AWS solution.
  • Future Guidance: Providing strategic recommendations for eventual production implementation.
 

THE IMPACT

The POC provided critical data regarding the consistency and behavior of AI-driven audits:

  • High Consistency in Explicit Logic: The evaluation proved that rules with clear, explicit policy language achieved 100% consistency across multiple test runs.
  • Identification of Policy Ambiguity: The system successfully highlighted "borderline cases" where non-deterministic AI results mirrored areas of actual policy ambiguity, identifying opportunities to strengthen documentation.
  • Stability in "Hard Failures": In advanced testing configurations, the system demonstrated perfect stability in identifying non-compliant rules (32 out of 32) across all runs.
  • Model Optimization: Testing revealed that setting the "Rules Model" temperature to 0.0 (deterministic) is essential for achieving the reproducible, auditable results required for compliance work.
