Securitoad, a security service for protecting websites during events like Comicon, faced challenges in providing accessible and understandable metrics to its end users. Initially, they relied on a simple command-line interface, which proved difficult for users to comprehend and analyze traffic data and security measures effectively.

TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION

To address this issue, Metal Toad, the company behind Securitoad, decided to build a dashboard to display metrics in an easy-to-understand and user-friendly manner. They chose Amazon QuickSight for its advanced features, including Row-Level Security, which allowed data to be restricted to client accounts, and Table Calculations for creating rich graphs and visualizations for users.

 Amazon QuickSight enabled Metal Toad to develop a fully-featured dashboard more quickly than building their own solution, while ensuring data protection and security. The data is ingested from S3 buckets, where Cloudfront logs are stored, processed, scored, and stored in Athena. Data partitions and Row-Level Security are utilized to restrict access to the data based on user accounts. The dashboard displays the security footprint of web traffic to end users within the Securitoad SaaS product.

IMPACT

By adopting Amazon QuickSight, Metal Toad was able to provide Securitoad's end users with a comprehensive and user-friendly dashboard for visualizing and analyzing their website's security metrics. This solution addressed the pain points of the previous command-line interface, making it easier for users to understand and act upon the data presented.
 With a serverless business intelligence (BI) solution like QuickSight, Metal Toad could focus on building the dashboard and delivering value to their customers, without the overhead of managing and maintaining the underlying infrastructure.

Customer Use Case

 Securitoad caters to a user base of 2 authors and every user of the SaaS application utilizes an anonymous session to access and view their data. 

Prior to adopting Amazon QuickSight, Metal Toad considered building their own graphing solution for the SaaS product. However, they ultimately decided against this approach due to cost considerations. By leveraging the expertise of the AWS SaaS Factory and QuickSight, Metal Toad was able to deliver a robust and cost-effective solution more efficiently
