How to Create a New Facebook Network for Your Business

Facebook networks are one of the major ways that it allows people to connect to each other. Networks come in a few different types including:

  • Regions (geographic)
  • Colleges
  • Workplaces
  • High School

If you are part of a small business, chances are you don't have a workplace Network setup on Facebook - but you can create one! Workplace networks allow you to setup a place for your co-workers or employees to connect to each other without needing setup a Group.

To setup your own Facebook network simply fill out the suggestion form here:

http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=add_work
[as of 3/31/11 this link no longer works, this thread here states that a request needs to be sent to networkrequest@facebook.com. We've emailed this address to confirm the process of creating a network on Facebook and will post our results when we know more]

The form asks for the following fields:

  1. Name of your employer
  2. Email address supplied to you by your employer
  3. Work's website

and looks like this:

The process takes about a week, but it's pretty straightforward. The same process also works for setting up other types of networks.

You are very welcome! I originally posted this last year, and the links since that original post have actually changed, so I updated it in February 2011.

Thank you for the tip but I'm not seeing the form through the link you sent, did fb change yet again?

Hi Olivia,

It looks like it has bee changed again. I'm going to see if we can track down where it went.

Joaquin

Thanks so much for following up on this. I've been trying to get Facebook to create my work network for months now. I sent many emails to the address they specified, but no progress or response whatsoever. I'd love to learn how to do that. Thanks again!

HI EVERYBODY! I GUESS THE EMAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED TO: networkrequest@fb.com

that happened because of a simple fact that facebook gave away the domain "@facebook.com" to the users now.

Cheers!

our university is not listed in facebook network so what can we do

The link was once needed to fill out a contact form on Facebook to generate an e-mail to reply back on. I found simply emailing networkrequest@fb.com doesn't work. As I had to reply to one that had a bunch of random letters in it as well. I believe Facebook is no longer focusing on Networks.

Unfortunately, I banned Facebook through our company routers as I felt there would be no motivation for my employees on Facebook without it.
